Why I (temporarily) Lost Faith in Functional Medicine…⁣

In early 2017, I was working with a functional medicine practitioner and my SIBO improved a lot. ⁣

I felt like I had finally found the solution I had been looking for and as you can imagine, I was VERY happy about it.⁣

But that joy only lasted for about a month. ⁣

I could not believe that functional medicine had “failed me” (much like conventional medicine had). My faith and hope in the approach crumbled because…⁣

I had suddenly switched to the hydrogen sulfide type of SIBO and things went downhill quickly. It lasted for 3 long years. And it was horrible. I was emotionally drained, anxious, sleep-deprived, and had a constant racing mind. It was the lowest time in my life.⁣

AND no one could help me. ⁣

In fact, my FM practitioner finally said that she thought I should consider starting a course of antidepressants. My GI specialist told me, “Jen, at this point, you know more about SIBO than I do”.⁣

I knew I had to become my own advocate and figure things out myself. ⁣

That is one of the reasons why I went back to school to learn functional medicine and study under the world’s top SIBO practitioners. I rolled up my sleeves and investigated what it was in the approach that had initially helped me and how I could get more of that success again. It took experimenting and looking outside the box… even the functional medicine box.⁣

I eventually overcame my H2S SIBO, and with the right guidance, you may be able, too.
