Why So Many Women Quietly Organize Their Life Around Gut Symptoms
I was thinking about this the other day because I realized how many women with gut issues quietly organize their entire life around not feeling sick.
And after a while, they stop even noticing they’re doing it.
They just become “the healthy one.” - The one who checks menus ahead of time. The one who always has supplements in her purse, and who says things like “my stomach’s weird lately” while functioning on caffeine, low protein, stress, and four foods she trusts.
And honestly, I think a lot of women are way more exhausted by managing their body than they even realize. Not just physically. Mentally. Because there’s a huge difference between being intentional about your health and constantly negotiating with your symptoms all day long.
I’ve worked with women who can run companies, lead teams, take care of kids, show up for everyone else… but they can’t go out to dinner without low-key anxiety about whether their stomach is going to betray them halfway through the meal.
This is actually VERY common, but it’s not normal.
And it’s definitely not freedom.
What’s frustrating is that the internet keeps convincing women that the answer is always more restriction.
+ More supplements.
+ More elimination.
+ More fear around food.
+ More hyper-fixation on every symptom.
Meanwhile nobody is asking why so many women’s bodies feel so fragile and reactive in the first place.
Because yes, food matters. Obviously.
But if your nervous system is fried, your blood sugar is unstable, your body is under-fueled, your stress hormones are all over the place, you’re sleeping poorly, pushing through exhaustion, and functioning in a constant low-grade survival state… eventually your digestion is going to reflect that too.
The body keeps adapting to the environment you give it. And truth be told, I believe a lot of women have spent so long trying to “manage” their body that they forgot the actual goal was supposed to be feeling good in it. They forgot how to feel resilient, energetic and relaxed - like truly relaxed!
Not spending your entire summer wondering whether the restaurant has “SIBO-safe” options and if your jeans will still fit by the end of the night.
This is a huge part of the work I do with women inside both my app and VIP mentorship. Not just helping them “manage symptoms,” but helping them understand why their body feels so reactive, depleted, inflamed, and stuck in the first place. A lot of women aren’t lacking discipline. They’re exhausted from fighting their body all day. I currently have 2 VIP spots open for women wanting deeper personalized support going into summer.
